Facebook is now silently promoting its ad-targeting system but doing so in a fairly clever way. They are disguising this ad system of sorts as a new version of their “flyers.”
Similar to the rest of the search world, it is a CPC model. The key differentiating factor is the fact that we are finally seeing a company that is stepping up and doing this in a targeted fashion. You aren’t going to see a blatent mis-use or gross amount of banners ads, pop-ups, etc. that you will out of Myspace. What you will see though, is a highly targeted and well thought out ad-serving model, that solves a MAJOR problem on the web today…allowing advertisers to seek out a specific group.
Taking a look and diving into it, I found out there are 4,120 people in San Francisco, CA that are single and are interested in music. Want to know about single folk in the entire U.S. interested in music, sure 964,260 on Facebook. Since it’s football season, I wanted to check that out, 755,360 people that are interested in football.

Once again, kudo’s to Facebook, the growing social networking giant for their innovation and it is well deserved. Once again, adding value to a company whose valuation seems to be rising.

LA times has announced a new model for their web strategy in which they will combine the efforts of both their print and online reporting. According the James O’Shea, editor, “Latimes.com will become our primary vehicle for breaking news 24 hours a day.”
It seems that latimes.com will be trying be trying to rejuvinate it’s advertising revenue as it has been declining massively on the print side. We will see this from more and more companies as we continue to become more accustom to an online news model. Although, it seems that the LA Times newspaper will be taking a more “thoughtful approach” according to O’Shea.
What do I think? I think this is a great move to LA Times to try to bring some new life to the company through a massive online push. Although, I doubt they will get anywhere near the likes of sites like digg.com, this could be a major way to regain some strength and increase the decreasing profits within the company. It will be interesting to see how things turn out, personally, I think it will be for the better. I think we will start seeing more and more of this in the future from other traditional journalism sources as well.

A term that I just saw in my recent readings for OMMA magazine, really got me thinking. “Advertising 2.0″….hmmph, interesting. With all the current talk about Web 2.0 on the internet, I am shocked that advertisers haven’t tried to dub this feature theirs. It’s such a catchy term that goes directly hand-in-hand with the current Web 2.0 state.
So, I am officially starting my advertising 2.0 campaign. With the digital age that we are living in, advertising and marketing has taken such a huge step and leap forward with Search/Internet/Online Advertising & Marketing. To all my fellow Internet Marketers, advertisers and innovators, join me in starting the Advertising 2.0 craze!!
(Poor attempt at starting something cool?!…I think not!!)
