AMD plans to buy ATI for $5.5 Billion

In breaking news AMD is reportedly planning to purchase Canadian chipmaker ATI. This could happen within the next few days as Advanced Micro Device, the worlds second largest microprocessor manufacturer is ramping up to challenge #1 Intel. This information comes from a report from bloomberg.com and it is said to be final over the next few days. The deal reported is that AMD will be purchasing ATI Technologies Inc. for approximately $5.5 billion.

This news is very interesting, especially since AMD has been already challenging Intel for market share. In recent months AMD has been striking deals with companies the likes of Dell and IBM. This deal could cause a huge mommentum shift in the positive direction for AMD and put them in a real position to take a HEAVY amount of market share from the largest chipmaker in the world, Intel.
