Beginner’s Guide to Blogging

Published by Tony Adam under Technology

Recently I have been trying to get into the swing of reading up on articles in my time off, getting back into SEO/SEM and blogging.  Soon enough I will try to enter the podcasting and vlog world as well.  That being said I have enjoyed blogging everytime I get a chance to and decided to write about blogging.

(Okay, side note, for those of you that are already blogging up a storm, post some comments and tips for others!!  I’m sure they’ll appreciate it and plus, you might get another reader! ;-)…) Continue Reading »

Firefox 2 Release

Published by Tony Adam under Technology, Web

Just downloaded the Firefox 2 update today and gave it a test drive and wanted to take a look at a couple features that I noticed. So, here are a few things that I noticed and some things that you might not actually see.

  • “Visual Look and Feel” is much nicer and does have a new and cool feel to it.
    Firefox Look And Feel
  • Search - The Search box by the address bar will recommend searches for you as you start typing, this is pretty cool in my opinion…I am always looking for things that make life easier!
    Firefox Search
  • Tabs - Tabs are sooooo much better now, as links will open new tabs instead of new windows and each tab has a “close” button.
    Firefox Tabs
  • Recovering lost browser sesssions
  • Feed handling
  • Increased Security through extensions and phishing protection that is built in.

That is all I have for now. Unlike the major differences between IE 6 and IE 7 (Microsoft was WAAAAY behind) there wasn’t really a MAJOR UI change that you could notice other than the tabs. Firefox is in my opinion at this point, light-years ahead of IE7. Sorry Microsoft, you fell short again!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Published by Tony Adam under Personal

I wanted to take a minute out of my very busy family oriented day to write a blog wishing everyone a happy thanksigivng to you and your families! I also wanted to thank some people have been pretty inspirational to me and been there for me throughout my VERY tough and busy journey in my still young career and my life! Without all of you at some point and time I would have never made it through the adversity.

  • First and foremost, my sisters and brother-in-law for keeping me going and letting me know that they are there for me when I need them.
  • My friend’s from High School whom I still talk to and keep in touch with…some notable mentions Aris Hovsepian and Rodney Mardirosian.
  • James Payne - Who has been a great friend and inspiration to me to go out and do what I do best.
  • Gerald Abrahamian - Whom have given me tons of wisdom and taught me a lot about management, leadership and has been very motivational.
  • Joe Barsoian - Who has given me a great deal of advice and mentorship and has been a great friend.
  • Anto Baharian and Roger Thomas - You guys were the only reason I stayed at Fame 1 so long and inspire me in the musical aspirations in life.
  • Every technolgist, blogger, and marketer that I have come across during my career and allowed me to gain so much knowledge and continues to share their knowledge.
  • Music, because it has been a HUGE part of my life since I was a child.
  • Being able to spend a day off and unplugged from the web to hang out with my family, eating turkey, drinking scotch (I love Scotch, scotchy scotchy scotch!!…hehe), eating deserts of many kinds, and just enjoying the day and night together.
  • Finally, I am thankful for the future and what it holds and the new adventures that I may come across. Tomorrow is what makes everything worth it, tomorrow is where the new adventures are, tomorrow is what makes living today so grateful…because I know that we all have the ability to make a difference and because I live for the adventures of tomorrow and trying to make a different in one way or another.

For anyone that I have not mentioned up to this point, I am VERY sorry, but do know, that I am definitely grateful for all of the inspiration, help, guidance and knowledge that you have given me!!

Motorola Q Users

Published by Tony Adam under Technology

Since I have had some free time lately I’ve been looking for cool new IM and utility type apps for the Motorola Q.  I have come across the Qusers (www.qusers.com) and it has been a good resource for me, so I just wanted to pass it along to any other Motorola Q users.  Any others, feel free to comment and discuss!

Google Reader

Published by Tony Adam under RSS, Web

Okay, so a while ago I posted a blog about NewsFire RSS reader for the Mac.  I loved it and to be honest I still do and I will continue to use it, because it is far and away the best “software” based RSS reader on the market.

Now, I never used Google Reader because it sucked a while back and I heard Matt Cutts make the same mention about this and that it is much better now.  So, do I take this lightly seeing as he is a Google employee and pushing Google Products…eh…maybe.  But, be that as it may I decided to give it a test run, and to be honest, I really like it.  I think my favorite part is the fact that it isn’t a “FAT Client” on my computer that I have to worry about.  I am a huge FAN BOY of web based apps and this is now one of my favs now.  I will still have to work with it for a while and get all my feeds entered in, but, I think this will probably be replacing Newsfire for me in the near future!

So, check it out (http://www.google.com/reader/)and let me know what you guys think or if you know of any other web based readers that are much better, i’m all for trying new toys!

Pubcon 2006 Wrap Up!

Published by Tony Adam under SEO, Web

Summing up Pubcon in one blog post is like asking for a miracle. But I am going to do it for you quickly (hint the sarcasm), so take a DEEP breathe! First off, notable mention to Guy Kawasaki for an excellent kockoff keynote. Although, I had to give John Battelle the edge on this one, only because content was king for me! (I wonder if that will ever be over-used). Finally, the Danny Sullivan keynote was also great and it was awesome to see one of the most prominent figures in our industry.

Now, some of my favorite sessions overall had to be the sessions dedication the Viral & WOM Marketing, Press Releases and Feeds, Blogs, etc. These sessions were good because in my opinion the covered the more advanced topics and not so much high-level stuff. Now only that, but as usual some panels/forums had the usual Shameless promotion by organizations!!

Events, events, events…Google, Ask.com, Yahoo! and Ask.com all over again had an event! It seemed like we were non-stop with action after sessions and conferences!! To bad I didn’t get to make it out to the Yahoo! party, that would have been fun!

Finally, I have to make some very notable mentions to people that I met or saw at the conference:

Dana Todd - One of most knowledgable, if not the most knowledgable person in the Search Marketing industry. She moderated the podcasting forum and did an amazing job as always! We had some great conversation at events and such!

John Battelle - For bringing up the topic of Search on the internet and that basically being the new medium driving software and the internet.

Rand Fishkin - Notable mention for a great presentation on Link Bait. Also, for the fact that he called out a guy and told him not to leave the room, classic momment!

Todd Malicoat and Greg Hartnett - Great presentations in regards to Feeds, Blogs, News and Social Search.

Sergio and Patrick Kajirian - I spent a good amount of time talking to these two guys before, during and after sessions. It was a blast getting to know them and they are definitely some very bright individuals.

Finally, I can’t end this in any other way but to give Brett Tabke a ton of credit for putting together, yet again, an AMAZING conference. You make all of this happen and you give us all a place to learn more about the industry and meet more people within it! Good luck with the baby!!

I met a ton more people at the conference and loved every minute of the time I spent there! I am positive I have missed some people on the list and I am very sorry for doing so, but definitely know that if we met I want to keep in touch for sure and you should definitely feel free to contact me anytime!! That’s all from Pubcon 2006, i’m already looking forward to 2007!!

From Barcamp to Pubcon! Unconference to Conference!

Published by Tony Adam under SEO, Technology, Web

Well I’ve got a pretty packed weekend ahead of me. I will definitely be attending BarCampLA-2 this weekend and it will be my first look at a Technology UnConference, this should be super exciting. There will be topics like a panel on “Do’s and Don’ts of Startups,” digital media, web/software development, etc. I am really amped for the opportunity to see all of the presentations and I might just end up presenting myself!

Pubcon, Pubcon. Pubcon…need I say more?! The top yearly conference for SEO, SEM, Affiliate Marketing, and so much more. Put on by WebMasterWorld and sponsored by the likes of Google, Yahoo!, Ask.com, and Opera. It is definitely the premiere event for web geeks! Here is a link to some history http://www.pubcon.com/history.htm.
